You've Been Accepted

Congratulations!
Your hard work has paid off and you’ve been accepted. Below are some important reminders about things you'll want to finalize before you begin professional school.
  • Confirm Your Acceptance
    • Carefully review all your paperwork to determine how to accept the officer.
    • Make note of deadlines (there are usually more than one).
    • Identify when/how to pay your seat/tuition deposit.
  • How to Decline an Offer
    • As soon as you've decided not to move forward with a program, please decline the offer. This opens a seat for another prospective student and helps your profession move forward.
    • Check your acceptance letter for instructions on how to decline an offer. If none exist, send a short, polite email with the subject "Decline Admission Offer" in the subject line.
    • You are not required to disclose your reason for declining an offer and the email may be simple as thinking them for the opportunity, but you will be declining their offer. It's not personal, nor unexpected for admissions professionals to receive denials. If you have had an extensive relationship with their admissions office it might make sense to provide more detail, but it is not required.
    • Remember: be timely, keep it short, be professional.
  • Get Your Paperwork In Order
    • Once you've accepted an offer of admission, don't make the mistake of assuming you're done. Carefully read all communications from your professional program.
    • Be on the lookout for additional requirements to complete before school, which may include:
      • Sending Final Transcripts
      • Background Checks
      • Immunization Records (for health related programs)
      • Visa paperwork (international students)
  • Finalize Your Financial Plans
    • Know your costs (not only tuition, but living expenses, too).
    • Don't overlook, transition costs. You may be taking out loans or receiving grants or scholarships to pay for school, but don't forget to plan for covering costs before school begins.
    • Not sure how to pay for school or what your options may be? Explore your options.
  • Don't Forget Housing
    • Reach out to your professional school admission's team with housing questions. They can recommend places to live and may connect you with classmates also looking for housing/roomates.
    • Prioritize finding a place to live and getting settled prior to the start of school.
    • Many programs begin mid-Aug., aim to be moved in by Aug. 1 to give yourself time to get acquainted with your new housing situation and community before the semester begins.
