• What do chiropractors do?
  • Chiropractors (D.C.) are primary care professionals who diagnose and treat patients with health problems associated with the muscular, nervous and skeletal systems. 
  • They use adjustive therapies to treat patients with joint inflammation, osteoarthritis, muscle soreness and chronic pain to help improve their overall health and find relief without reliance on drugs or surgery. Often this involves realigning the spine by physically manipulating areas of the body around the back, neck or extremities as part of their treatment.
  • Chiropractors use treatments holistically in conjunction with other medical therapies, such as those that utilize naturopathic medicine, physical activity, nutrition or physical therapy. Chiropractors may refer patients to other fields of medicine for treatment if symptoms suggest disease elsewhere in the body.
  • They do not prescribe medication, but take a medical history and gather information to assess, diagnose and implement a patient treatment plan.
  • Some chiropractors specialize in a specific patient population, and may work with osteopathic physicians, clinicians, nutritionists, athletic groups, massage therapists and physical therapists.
