Pre-Medical Lab Sciences

Application Process
There are different pathways to becoming a Medical Lab Scientist. You may pursue a bachelors or masters specific program or you may pursue a related background in a STEM field and complete a one year hospital internship, qualifying you to sit for certification boards. Application cycles vary as some programs may have spring and fall start dates, while others only begin in the fall.
Please review each medical laboratory sciences program's official admissions website for full details and instructions about their application process.

OCCLSA

Oklahoma Consortium of Clinical Laboratory Science Affiliates
In Oklahoma, there are three hospital internship programs, the completion of which allows you to sit for your certification exam from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) to begin practicing as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (also knows as a Medical Lab Scientist). At OSU you may pursue this as a 3+1 (if you are majoring in Microbiology) or a 4+1 if you have already earned your bachelors degree.

AHCAS

Allied Health Centralized Application System
Many, but not all medical laboratory sciences programs participate in AHCAS.
If a medical laboratory sciences program is not a member of AHCAS, they will have their own individual application process and procedures.
