Application Timelines

Applications can vary but primary applications often open in May. Application deadlines widely vary, with some closing as early as October.

Review your specific programs and plan accordingly.

Review each medical schools's official admissions website for full details and instructions about their application process. As you prepare, it is helpful note the following items for each school:

Priority and final deadlines
How to apply (AMCAS or other method)
Who should write letters of recommendation
Personal statement requirements
Additional components / essays

AMCAS

American Medical College Application Service.

Many, but not all medical schools outside of Texas participate in AMCAS.

If a medical school is not a member of AMCAS, they will have their own individual application process and procedures.

TMDSAS

Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service

Texas residents interested in a Texas Dental Program MUST apply through TMDSAS.

Non-residents interested in Texas programs may apply through TMDSAS or another method.

AACOMAS

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service

Many, but not all medical schools outside of Texas participate in AACOMAS.

If a medical school is not a member of AACOMAS, they will have their own individual application process and procedures.
