Program Overview & Benefits
- Who should apply?
OSU undergraduate students who have decided to become a physician and are interested in attending OSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine to be trained as as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).
- What majors are eligible?
The program is open to ALL majors at OSU.
- Academic requirements
- 3.5 overall GPA.
- Earn a 502 or higher on the MCAT.
- Before matriculation into OSU-COM:
- Complete your bachelor's degree.
- Complete ALL prerequisite coursework (*note requirements may change from time to time).
- Non-academic requirements
- Permanent resident of the U.S.
- 500+ hours of healthcare experience at time of application.
Note: You can only apply once to the Guaranteed Interview Program.
- What is considered "health-related" experience?
Healthcare experience is defined by OSU-COM as:
- Both paid and unpaid work in health-related fields where you are not directly responsible
for a patient’s care but you have direct, hands-on experiences relating to patient
care.
- E.g. filling prescriptions, clerical work, delivering patient food, cleaning patients/their rooms, administering food or medication, taking vitals or other record keeping information, working as a scribe, CNA (depending on job description), medical assistant, etc.
