2 Routes: Become a OTEveryone's pathway to become a OT is different. Common routes for OSU students include:

  • OSU Bachelor's + OT School

    OSU bachelor's degree then attend a master's or doctoral-level occupational therapy school program.

     

    Steps:

    • Earn a bachelor’s degree (of your choice) from OSU and complete all of your prerequisite courses* for an accredited master (MOT, MS or MA) or doctoral (OTD) level Occupational Therapy program.
    • Both degree levels of OT programs allow entry to the OT profession after completion of your bachelor's degree. Explore which type of program would be the best fit for your long term goals. 
    • Apply to an accredited OT school program. If accepted, begin your master's or doctoral-level degree OT professional school program.

  • OSU Bachelor's + Gap Year + OT School

    Taking additional time can be to your advantage as a OT school applicant.

     

    Steps:

    • Earn a bachelor’s degree (of your choice) from OSU and complete all of your prerequisite courses* for an accredited Master (MOT, MS or MA) or Doctoral Level (OTD) Occupational Therapy school program.
    • If you feel you need more holistic development (academic or non-academic) to be ready to professionally apply, consider taking a “gap/enhancement year” to help you further develop. 
    • Unsure of what to do during a "gap/enhancement year?" Explore resources from AOTA or visit the Pre-Professional Academic Services Office to discuss your options. 
    • When holistically ready, apply to an accredited OT school program. If accepted, begin your master's or doctoral level OT professional school program.
