Pre-Pharmacy

  • What do pharmacists do?
    • Pharmacists (Pharm.D.) are medication experts who enhance patient care and promote wellness.
    • Pharmacist to prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensure medicines and doses are correct, prevent harmful drug interactions, and counsel patients on the safe and appropriate use of their medications. Pharmacists have specialized knowledge of the scientific and clinical use of medications, including medication action, dosing, adverse effects, and drug interactions.
    • Healthcare professional team members rely on pharmacists to select and administer medications that offer the best possible health outcomes for a patient.
    • Pharmacists work in a variety of healthcare settings and perform many types of medication-related activities which may include preparing personalized medications, participating in patient rounds at the hospital, ensuring appropriate use and monitoring of medications, conducting research and/or clinical trials, or focusing on a specific patient population or disease state (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, asthma, HIV, and pain management).
