Pre-Medical Laboratory Scientists
- What do medical/clinical laboratory scientists do?
- Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS), also known as Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) are considered “disease detectives” and play a critical role in the healthcare team. They analyze a variety of biological specimens from the human body including blood, tissue samples, and other body fluids to pinpoint the cause of disease.
- Data and test results they produce are important in detecting and treating cancer, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, birth defects, infections, and many other medical conditions.
- Nearly 80% of all decisions regarding a patient’s diagnosis, medical treatment or therapy, hospital admission or medical discharge are based on the results of the tests that medical laboratory scientists perform.
