Pre-Nutrition & Dietetics

  • What do dietitians do?

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) provide nutrition assessment, make nutrition diagnosis, determine and implement nutrition interventions, and monitor and evaluate a patient’s progress.

They work in a variety of settings, including health care, business and industry, community/public health, education, research, government agencies, and private practice. RDNs perform a variety of different functions, including:

    • Nutrition education, diet plan development, and administration of nutrition therapy.
    • Management of food service operations in hospitals, clinics, or other health-care facilities.
    • Public campaigns to improve quality of life through healthy eating habits.
    • Researching critical nutrition questions.
    • Teaching other healthcare professionals about food science and nutrition.
    • Consultation with chefs, product developers, and nutrition-related businesses.
